ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp.’s (electrameccanica.com) single-occupant, three-wheeled electric vehicle, Solo, is sure to be the talk of The Valley. The Canadian designer and manufacturer has chosen Mesa to house its first United States assembly facility and engineering technical center, slated for completion by March 2022. “Arizona has historically been known to have environmentally friendly consumers and early adopters to EV,” says President and CEO Paul Rivera. “We believe Mesa’s population size and density provides a great talent pool as we look forward to contributing to the growing high-tech environment.” Available in four colors—black, white, red and iridium silver—its flagship Solo EV has all the premium comforts of a multiseat passenger vehicle, including remote keyless entry, heated seats, a Bluetooth entertainment system and more. Here, Rivera shares his insight on why it may be the best time to drive solo.
Why is the timing of launching Solo beneficial for riders? There has never been a better time to reimagine transportation than now. With the challenges we have faced this year, the Solo provides a unique solution to social distancing preferences in place of other short-distance transportation options, like ride share or public transit.
What activities do you think drivers will use Solo for most? Think about how often you are alone in your car. In the United States, 76% of Americans still drive their own vehicle to work, leaving three to five empty seats. Beyond commuting to work, there are so many applications that people drive solo… grocery shopping, grabbing coffee, delivering a package or just needing time alone. It could also be used for food delivery services or security patrol.
What makes the Solo driving experience so unique for the environmentally conscious consumer? Its ease of navigating through traffic and parking but, most importantly, Solo has zero emissions, zero sound and zero time spent going to the pump.
What other features can we expect? This EV is unique, unlike any other vehicle currently on the market. It goes 100 miles on a single charge with a top speed of 80 mph, and it blends a modern look with features that keep you safe, including front and rear crumple zones, side-impact protection, a roll bar, a wide front track for enhanced drivability and torque-limiting stability control.
What is your personal mantra? Don’t let anything stop your success, and together, let’s find ways to knock down the walls, jump over the hurdles and get around the obstacles to make it happen.
