Lit Lounge is the Museum’s acclaimed monthly event created by playwright, author and SMoCA Lounge staff “instigator” Tania Katan featuring a fusion of performers telling true stories meshed with live music. The event fills quickly each month in the intimate 100-seat SMoCA Lounge, which prompted Katan to create one large, round-up event at the end of the yearly season in the 800+-seat performing arts theater to celebrate what she deems as “the MOST… because Lit Lounge is already the best.” Katan relishes out-doing herself and has ambitiously coordinated a suite of knockout national talent to grace the bigger stage this June. Valley audiences will be treated to more seats in the large adjacent theater, more talent, and more stories—all to experience the MOST that the Lit Lounge event has to offer!
The June 26th event features an all-star lineup—including a special appearance by Lit Lounge creator, the TEDx-talking, Comedy Central Stage performing Tania Katan; plus, best-selling author Annabelle Gurwitch, who has appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher, Anderson Cooper, The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, Entertainment Tonight, CNN, to name a few; Beth Lapides, a story-performer and producer who has rocked the HBO Comedy Arts Festival and played a performance artist on Sex and the City; Dani Modisett, comedian/author and contributor to The Huffington Post, Parents Magazine and NickMom; Kim Porter, writer/performer and winner of three L.A. Weekly Theater Awards and two Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards; Sonya Renee Taylor, poet-performer-activist who’s appeared on MTV, BET, and Oxygen Network, NPR; and Jessica Lee Williamson, New York’s The Moth Grand Slam winner… and more! The Most of Lit Lounge will also feature lives musical guests including the beloved Arizona band wielding the best use of accordion: Where Are All the Buffalo.
A cash bar will be available for the Most of Lit Lounge and guests can request lids for their beverages in order to take them into the theater to enjoy during the show.
Lit Lounge is proudly sponsored by Macy’s, Scottsdale League for the Arts and the Saguaro Hotel.
