When Phoenix native Sage Loman began conceptualizing her collection, Sage Aubrey, the only thing she knew for sure was that she wanted to create bags that were “statuesque” and “embodied the modern woman’s strength.” After years of sampling the brand’s signature shape, the LUNA tote was born. Iconic for its geometric shape and high-quality craftsmanship (each one is handcrafted in Florence, Italy), the bag represents so much more than meets the eye. “I believe my responsibility as a woman-owned business is to uplift,” says Loman. That’s why the designer paired up with Apne Aap Women Worldwide, a grassroots organization in India working toward ending sex trafficking while empowering and educating women globally. By the end of 2019, Loman plans to donate 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to the nonprofit. While her brand continues to expand and become more sustainable, the philosophy Sage Aubrey was founded on stays the same—“I design for real women living real lives,” Loman says. “And that’s a game changer.”
