Talking Style

| May 4, 2016 | Parties National

Created in partnership with the Phoenix Art Museum’s Arizona Costume Institute, the design-focused event began with wine, cheese and passed hors d’oeuvres prepared by chef Jeremy Pacheco during a meet and greet with Mark Badgley and James Mischka. This was followed by an intimate Q&A session on The Hermosa Inn’s hideaway patio and a photo op with the designers, who signed copies of their new book, Badgley Mischka: American Glamour ($65, Rizzoli), before heading to LON’s for dinner.

The designing duo was introduced by Dennita Sewell, curator of fashion design at Phoenix Art Museum, who wrote the introduction to the new book.

Badgley and Mischka shared memories of their 30-year careers, including what it’s like to work with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey and Helen Mirren. They said they got their start by making evening clothes for friends and were eventually asked to make a dress for Winona Ryder. The life and business partners revealed, after recently buying back their label from its parent company, they’re thrilled to again have control. -Photography by Carrie Evans
