With the husband being from Rio Rico, the owners have a passion for its community and sought a similar Mexican resort vibe for their new home. “This young, vibrant family with two small children were longing for their own slice of earthy, edgy, eclectic organic desert living,” says Kristen Forgione, principal designer at TheLifestyledCo., whose trademarked aesthetic, Organic Desert Living, heavily influences all of the firm’s home design projects. “Organic Desert Living is the combination of muted color and endless texture. This project in particular took on a more eclectic and Spanish-inspired iteration of our aesthetic, incorporating more color, more texture in hardscape selection and more texture in styling.”

Motivated by the Spanish-inspired theme, the details of this new build began at conception. “Working with an experienced, creative architectural team at Cory Black Design as well as an experienced interior design team at TheLifestyledCo., our team collaborated for a full year prior to construction,” explains Matthew Segerstrom, president of Modern Splendor Homes. “The preplanning details work together in unison creating a quality built home with design aspects specifically selected with the client at heart.” The motto of MSH is always Building Livable Luxury, which begins with great design and is conveyed throughout the project with clients and trade professionals. What sets MSH apart in the Valley is open communication with clients and tradesmen, paired with a project management system that allows 24/7 client access throughout the duration of the project. “[With] 100% transparency, our team of experienced craftsmen is forthright in all aspects of construction,” Segerstrom says. “With over 40 years of combined construction experience, the quality leadership at MSH will assure build quality and client satisfaction.”

“One of the first things you’ll notice is the grandeur of the 24-foot ceilings, which were grounded with playful, oversize lighting and ceiling treatments to entice the eye,” says Rachel McCloskey, lead designer at TheLifestyledCo. Upon entry, eyes are drawn to three 36-inch-diameter black pendants above that give a subdued, intimate, welcoming feel in the foyer.
The focal moment in the living room is the fireplace and the space includes wood tables and vintage lampshades to bring an earthy feel. “In this project, texture was present in the form of natural wood,” says McCloskey. “We incorporated natural wood elements into the design for warm texture, archways for a true hacienda feel, and muted, yet deeply hued color in various spaces throughout the home.”

Taking over its Instagram feed is the custom barrel beam ceiling treatment in the kitchen. “The designers and architects collaborated to come up with an edgy ceiling detail that hasn’t been seen before. The designers really wanted to push the envelope in this space,” says Segerstrom. “As the builder, we had to successfully execute their design detail. It came out simply stunning.”

Along with the barrel beam ceiling, an Arto brick permanent runner adds to the hacienda look in the kitchen, and is also used as thresholds in the hallways of the home.
Aptly named #HaciendaVibesBuild (and #MSHIVYLANE), over 7,000 square feet of Spanish-inspired tranquility was accomplished for this family of four.
