Scottsdale-based Sarah Benken started KNOW Book + Tribe to network and meet fellow female entrepreneurs and leaders. The project took off like wildfire.
Last year, when Sarah Benken published KNOW Book + Tribe, her compendium of 100 dynamic Phoenix-area women, she thought it would be a one-off and she could return to her national concierge and personal assistant business. Um, not quite. The annual publication took off like wildfire, and Benken’s looking at launching it in 20 new cities in the United States and Canada this year, not to mention putting together KNOW mixers, a summit and other events in the coming year. “KNOW grew organically,” says Benken, a North Carolina native who moved to Scottsdale in 2015. “I had to move quickly to put together a team to do this.” Benken, who has a background in small-business management and accounting, says she started the publication to spotlight dynamic women in a variety of fields, creating a “tribe,” and she’s riding a crest of woman power with the book, which profiles a select group of women once they’ve been nominated and vetted. “The women in KNOW are amazing,” she says. “With the Phoenix book, they ranged in age from 24 to 70. We looked for women who want to lift each other, so we can all rise.”
