With fans ranging from Rihanna and Miley Cyrus to the Kardashians and even Martha Stewart—who stops in whenever she’s in town—Vintage by Misty has been going strong for 13 years. The Scottsdale mainstay is a treasure trove of carefully curated luxury pieces, from rare Chanel bags to showstopping gowns by European, American and Israeli designers, all cherry-picked by founder Misty Guerriero, who applies her discerning eye and penchant for color, texture and prints to every in-store selection. “When you walk in the store, you just feel good,” she says. “The world is a beautiful, colorful place. I try to bring out the beauty in each piece.”

Now, she’s expanding her offerings with Regency Modern, a new, 1,000-square-foot boutique that offers high-end candles, games, unique jewelry, vintage barware and more, all handpicked with the same level of selective curation Guerriero applies to Vintage by Misty—which happens to be attached to the new venture. “It’s a good crossover because Vintage by Misty is all luxury goods, but I love interiors as well,” she says, explaining that she used to supply a friend’s store with decor finds from London, Paris and Morocco. “It’s when I started getting into vintage,” she explains.
Like Vintage by Misty, the experience of shopping at Regency Modern is an adventure, as Guerriero is consistently updating her offerings. While luxe candles by Cire Trudon and sister brand Carrière Frères, and funky games—think Chanel playing cards and a set of colorful Lucite dominoes—will always be offered, other items including one-of-a-kind sets of midcentury barware, Gucci decor and vintage concert posters will be rotating as inventory shifts. “I kept the Vintage by Misty concept but made it gifty, in a crossover where there’s really something for everyone,” she explains.

While Vintage by Misty offers high-end jewelry, at Regency Modern, Guerriero stuck with contemporary lines like Kris Nations, and Arizona-appropriate pieces made with crystals and turquoise. “Not everyone can afford a pair of Chanel earrings,” she says. A nod to Vintage by Misty next door, there are also gorgeous coffee-table books focused on fashion, along with cheeky greeting cards and loungewear. As well, the store carries sculptures by Miami-based artist Becky Rosa, known for her melting ice cream cones and colorful popsicle creations. “My shop is very humorous,” says Guerriero. “It makes everyone laugh, which is so important in these tense times.”

While so many brick-and-mortar stores have closed over the years, here, Guerriero is expanding. And, fashion houses like Dior, Bottega Veneta, YSL and Alexander McQueen are looking to her pieces to find inspiration for their future collections. So, what’s the secret to her success? “When I opened Vintage by Misty 13 years ago, customers didn’t even want resale, they wanted something new. It took time. Scottsdale isn’t like L.A., where people appreciate what’s been around for decades because of Hollywood,” she says. “You can’t train someone to have taste,” she continues. “I think I’ve been blessed with a good eye, and have stayed true to what I really love. I’m not putting just anything in my stores. I think people appreciate that.” vintagebymisty.com; regencymodernshop.com
