THE CLIENTS “Leaving their traditional home on the East Coast, our clients were excited about embracing warm desert tones and organic elements into their new home,” says Raegan Ford, principal designer and owner of Raegan Ford Interior Design (raeganford.com). Th is home in Troon stands in the High Sonoran Desert of Scottsdale with spectacular views. “Our clients purchased a beautiful contemporary home,” she notes, “and they came to us with the challenge of creating a desert-inspired home that provided a comfortable and calm environment.”

THE STRATEGY To soften the clean lines and surfaces of this contemporary home, Ford focused on creating a cohesive connection between the interior and exterior of the home. “We introduced nature-inspired colors,” she says, “and drew on texture through materials such as wood, stone and leather to subtly layer the space with interest.”

THE DESIGN A casual attitude continues throughout the house as you meander from room to room. In the family room, the design bridges sophistication and comfort, set with a plush cushioned sectional and multiple chairs to use for entertaining friends or relaxing with family. “We were inspired by the natural desert surrounding the home that features weathered boulders, desert blooms and distant mountain views,” says Ford. “This desert-inspired home is washed in a natural palette of warm earthen hues with organic shapes and materials placed thoughtfully throughout the house.”

THE DETAILS“We designed the rooms to intentionally leverage the beautiful desert vista,” says Ford. “In particular, the wine room features soft, sink-into chairs that are gathered around a weathered wood table appropriate for a glass of wine. The opposing textures of the cowhide rug and polished concrete floors offer a sleek yet cozy atmosphere to enjoy the mesmerizing views.”

The live-edge coffee table in the family room was handselected and sourced from a local vendor, Sólido. “The tree round garnishes uniqueness and coloring intricacies emphasize the organic quality of the piece,” she says. A custom-designed office desk, also by Sólido, features a sleek combination of warm walnut woods and concrete accents.
