For over 50 years, Copenhagen (copenhagenliving.com) has been bringing artistic and functional Scandinavian-style furniture and accessories from markets across the U.S. and Europe to Arizona, most recently at its new showroom in Gilbert. Here, we check in with owner Jens Hansen on home trends touching the East Valley now.
How would you describe your aesthetic?
Simple, comfortable European contemporary with a focus on the warmth of natural materials such as wood and leather used in designs that make a statement without having to rely on unnecessary ornamentation.
What design trends do you see in 2022?
Motion is in. Right now, we’re seeing more and more designs featuring motion recline mechanisms without the obvious look of being a motion piece. Streamlined sofas, sectionals and chairs that are a pleasure to look at when closed and having the added benefit of featuring power motion recline systems for the ultimate in comfort.
What exciting collections are you showing in Gilbert?
Our new Gilbert location has the benefit of size over our longtime Tempe location, which is now closed. As such, we’re now able to showcase more of our higher-end design pieces. These include leather upholstery by Incanto and Egoitaliano; dining rooms by Cattelan Italia, Midj of Italy; and many more products in all categories. The Gilbert showroom is new, and so is the collection of products featured inside.
What design elements are having a moment right now?
The use of natural, oiled walnut wood. Walnut adds a lot of look to any design requiring the use of wood. Its natural warmth and depth of color is stunning and should not be covered with any colored stain or finish. It also feels really nice.
What do you love about what you do?
My passion is my business. I so enjoy bringing good design to our clients and using these to help enhance their daily lives. We don’t just sell furniture, we enhance our clients’ lifestyles.
