Lauren Swanson-Tyda Lauren Swanson-Tyda | August 19, 2019 | People,
Laura Madden—a model, stylist and sustainable fashion advocate—made our Women of Style list this year.
Welcome to September in Scottsdale, darlings. Otherwise known as the month of FOMO.
Our Easterly counterparts post on social media shots of voluminous crocheted blankets, fingers wrapped around inspirational mugs, open windows and Crock-Pots furiously simmering something laced with pumpkin. And it drives us insane.
While the country leans ceremoniously into its penultimate season, we languish in 800-degree temperatures, frozen in time and melting internally. You would think that would deter us from shopping—all that wool and fur, tut-tut. Such a mockery. But nope. We cannot wait to pretend all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray in Scottsdale. And that’s what I love about us. Let’s agree to never change. Boot-tucking besties for life!
So, yeah. It’s September. And here I am taunting you with fall fashion. Behold the Jacquard jacket by Gucci on the cover and tell me you are not in love. I dare ya. This month, we also crown our Women of Style, a gaggle of beautiful, successful sartorial sprites who live among us like demigods, blazing a trail paved with pleats, pearls and cashmere.
This time, we picked blogger and photographer Diana Elizabeth Steffen, named after royalty (natch); Ashley Paige, stylist and philanthropist; and Laura Madden, a natural beauty with a passion for sustainable and recycled fashion. Tag, you’re it, ladies! And gents, if you are worried this is becoming too much of an estrogen party, check out my interview with actor Sterling K. Brown, where he talks about collecting watches and being a superhero at life. You’re welcome. We’ll get you next month in the October Men’s Fashion/Winter Travel Issue.
September also marks the return of the snowbirds and, with that, the end of summer hibernation. Can I get an amen? Or perhaps an exorcist? The much-anticipated opening of Maple & Ash at Scottsdale Waterfront is here—and famed Chicago chef Danny Grant, no doubt, has a few tricks up his sleeve. Wine, Women & Shoes returns with its benevolent plan to sling slingbacks and strappies in the name of Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. And Fall Restaurant Week is back. That’s all.
If you need a break from the heat, head up north to L’Auberge de Sedona the weekend of Sept. 14 for its 35th anniversary dinner, hosted by Cloth & Flame. Or plan an escape to Prescott National Forest for a stay at James Porter’s newly opened TERRA farm + manor. Do take us with you. We fit nicely in suitcases.
I hope you enjoy what we have curated and that this issue teases you just enough to get excited for fall. Wear that sherpa; drink that pumpkin spice chai tea latte; let your freak flag fly; and feel the cool breezes of FOMO wash over you. *Whoosh.* Byeee!
