Arizona is known for its close to 300 days of sunshine and warm winter temperatures, so it’s no surprise that residences boast guest suites or detached casitas for visitors.
Located in the heart of Paradise Valley, this detached guest home doubles as a pool house and outdoor oasis to escape poolside. The project, designed by Laura Kehoe Design, was set out to be a natural extension of the existing traditional home in which they had also designed just two years prior.
“The homeowners found that they were using all of the main home to its capacity during the pandemic and wished for additional usable space for guests,” says Laura Kehoe. “They also wanted a space they could enjoy when it was just the two of them. We had a lot of fun exploring all kinds of luxurious features they would love.”
There are some unexpected surprises and details that are a departure from the main residence.
"We were thrilled when the homeowners requested a hidden bathroom! Behind the slate blue bookcase in the living room, is the pool bath which can also be accessed from outside. It houses pool towels, sunblock, and gear. We were able to be a little more playful since this space was intended to share the Arizona vibes with guests. We selected the desert-printed wallpaper in the guest suite and natural rattan pendants to add some fun factor to the traditional structure.”
“On the patio we created an outdoor bar, an oversized fireplace and a cozy gathering space that overlooks the beautiful pool and luscious green landscaping. This yard is a one-of-kind outdoor oasis, nothing like the typical desert landscaping you’re used to seeing. We wanted to create a gathering space that takes full advantage of its surroundings —a part of the property you will never want to leave and share with your loved ones.”
All family members were accounted for. “We even added a custom dog wash with paw print tiles on the very back terrace,” says Kehoe.
Every detail in this guest house is spectacular. The living room features a beautiful mix of blue, gray, and wood tones, with extraordinarily comfortable seating and detail work that makes this room the perfect place to hang out when the summer temperatures keep you inside.
Laura Kehoe Design created the perfect complement to the oasis-style backyard and the main home they designed just a few years earlier.
