Brandish your chopsticks, sashimi lovers. When the weather is hot, nothing hits the spot like raw, fresh seafood. Here are some of my favorite places to get my sushi fix in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

PURE Sushi
A clean, modern atmosphere aligns well with the quality sushi this Valley mainstay churns out each day. More than 25 different types of nigiri and fresh takes on sashimi, like Sizzling Ono seared with olive oil and Hawaiian jus, topped with fresh chopped herbs. Yum. 20567 N. Hayden Road, Ste. 100, Scottsdale, 480 355 0999; 5538 N. 7th Street, Ste. 110

Roka Akor
Boasting elegant surrounds and contemporary robata Japanese cuisine, this location of Roka Akor in the McCormick Ranch area offers prime cuts of steaks, seafood and vegetables with Japanese-inspired accoutrements. 7299 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, 480.306.8800

Sushi Roku
This hyperhip Japanese restaurant’s sushi chefs make sure the sushi, sashimi, carpaccio and tataki are all top-notch while the kitchen turns out authentic cooked dishes such as dengaku, saikyo-yaki and kara-age. 7277 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale, 480.970.2121

Hana Japanese Eatery
Sushi chef and owner Lori Hashimoto works in perfect synchronicity with her mother, father and brother, turning out authentic Japanese food and traditional sushi at what might just be the best sushi place in town. 5524 N. Seventh Ave., Phoenix, 602.973.1238

This casual little gem in downtown Phoenix has an impressive selection of udon and ramen bowls, along with its specialty rolls. But we could eat the melt-in-your-mouth nigiri all day and all night. A briny hint of seawater blended with the butteriness of the flesh…sigh. Just magnificent. 4750 N. Central Ave., Ste. 2B, Phoenix, 602.264.4260

Squid Ink
This mod, Asian-fusion destination rolls out assorted sushi and sashimi platters, delicately handcrafted house rolls and green tea ice cream. 2 E. Jefferson St., Suite 108, Phoenix, 602.258.0510

Buck & Rider
Who says you can’t have fresh seafood in the desert? This hip hot spot in Arcadia boasts an impressive selection of oysters and chilled shellfish, sushi rolls and sumptuous hot plates from Executive Chef Shay Gau. Try the lobster hand roll with mango and Fresno chiles. 4225 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, 602.346.0110

Located in the heart of Arcadia, this eatery lives up to its namesake, offering excellent happy hour prices and platters of perfect sushi. A large list of specialty rolls with tongue-in-cheek-names, like The Climax, will keep you entertained (and full). 3957 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix, 602.956.2354
