Dinner Party

| October 28, 2014 | Parties

The Party
The James Beard Foundation’s Phoenix event for its Taste America tour was celebrated with plenty of style, talent and indulgence to benefit the foundation and its scholarship fund. A cocktail reception featured bites by local chefs Charleen Badman, Cullen Campbell, Silvana Salcido Esparza, Joshua Hebert and Gio Osso; and a multicourse dinner by superstar chef Kevin Binkley, host chef Paul McCabe and James Beard Award-winner Sherry Yard.

The People
James Beard Award-winner and star of Check, Please! Arizona Robert McGrath served as the night’s emcee. And the gastronomes in attendance were starstruck, surrounded by so many talented chefs, but Letitia Frye managed to command the attention of the room for a rousing live auction of extravagant rewards.

The Scene
Chef Esparza delivered quite the surprise when she raised the number of guests from 14 to 40 during the bidding on her auction item: an at-home tequila tasting. Following all the action and a perfect dinner, guests meandered into the courtyard for digestifs and desserts by Yard (gooey cookies, cinnamon cotton candy, warm beignets, banana-chocolate chip souffles and more) and fireworks to ensure the evening ended with a bang. -
