Dennita Sewell shares insight into her stylish aesthetic.
"I have known since I was 10 years old that I would have a career in the field of textiles and fashion,” says Dennita Sewell, the director of ASU FIDM and the ASU FIDM Museum (asufidm.asu.edu).
“I see the world through the lens of fashion and its relationship to contemporary society and culture as endlessly fascinating.”
Known for her tailored style that balances refinement with creativity, Sewell, who likes to support smaller, independent brands, describes her look as centered around “classic silhouettes made in quality fabrics,” emphasizing the lasting power of timeless design.
“I feel appropriately dressed for a range of occasions in a tailored suit,” she explains, adding that her style choices reflect her professional ethos: “I am conscious of how I represent ASU FIDM appropriately—tailored but with creative touches in the shirt or accessories.”
Sewell’s daily wardrobe includes pieces like “a classic button-up shirt in Supima cotton, jacket and trousers,” which she pairs with Italian leather sneakers or Dear Frances boots.
As she develops ASU FIDM’s fashion program across campuses in Phoenix and Los Angeles, Sewell is excited to see creativity flourish around her.
“It’s fun working at ASU FIDM, a fashion school, because the faculty and students are creative and stylish,” she says. “We live in a time of individuality, and the parade of daily life is of endless interest.” Here, Sewell shares the chic pieces she reaches for on the regular.
