More than 400 VIPs, furbished in their best ensembles, lined the galleries of Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art at SMoCA Mix: Fashionably Avant-Garde, a blend of couture, cocktails, artistry and cupcakes. Yes, cupcakes.
THE PARTY The evening feted the interplay of edginess and creativity with its array of local and curated fashions, performance art and live music.
THE GUESTS SMoCA director and Chief Curator Sara Cochran, co-chairs Tracy and Christian Serena, and creative chair Oscar De las salas showed off their best avant-garde looks. Emmy Award-winning journalist Carey Peña hosted the event.
THE HIGHLIGHTS Guests followed a trail of mannequins decked in tulle up to the entrance, where libations and iconic pieces worn by the likes of Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Katy Perry awaited. A continuous runway snaked through all four galleries, where models stomped the catwalk showing off fashions by Galina Couture, Albert Andrada, Rocky Gathercole, Elie Madi and Fouad Sarkis. ASU dancers performed modern choreography as a little palate cleanser between shows while guests refilled drinks and enjoyed elegant bites by celebrated chefs Kevin Binkley and Joshua Hebert. –Lauren Swanson; photography by Haute Photography
