Named one of the top women in real estate by the Scottsdale Women’s Council of Realtors, Cionne McCarthy is privy to the Valley’s luxury market. Here, she shares with us what to expect this year and beyond.
What’s trending right now for buyers?
The vast majority are looking to downsize, but are still seeking thoughtfully designed homes that offer gardenesque indoor-outdoor living areas and creative storage.
What are the top 1% looking for in a home?
Views and privacy. They also want a location close to urban amenities for shopping, culture and entertainment. Lastly, they want unique, premium finishes—the home’s “jewelry.”
What’s your dream neighborhood?
I have always had a special love for Casa Blanca Estates because of the diversity of architecture inside its Moorish guard gate. The homes are a hybrid of Arcadia (where I live now) and Paradise Valley. Casa Blanca Estates began as smaller custom homes in the 1960s, and most have been restored or rebuilt. The location near the base of Camelback Mountain between Old Town Scottsdale and Paradise Valley is excellent.
Are there any home trends that have become a bit passé in recent months?
All white—white walls, white countertops, lighter-colored floors; shifting more toward warmth, quality wood and antique beams. I’d really like to see the return of true craftsmanship... along with eliminating subway tile.
What’s the best thing you can do to increase your home value in today’s world?
Landscaping needs to be updated periodically. Hire a landscape architect and invest in the exterior of your property. Buyers are looking for verdant landscaping that is low-maintenance—fortunately, it is easy to achieve in Arizona.
The Phoenix area continues to attract large established companies and startups of varying industries. Population growth and business expansion combined with our climate [make it an attractive place to live].
